It's all about asking Jesus to help. Just say out loud. "What do I need to know about speaking tongues. Please show me in the Bible by your Spirit." Or something like that. It will come when you're ready to let Him show you how. You'll love it.
For all the churches I've attended, I've never heard of the baptism of the Holy Spirit until the one I now attend. People say if you've received it, you'll speak in tongues. That hasn't happened to me as of now.
Tongues is just one of the manifestations. Discernment is another. Supernatural gifts of knowledge and wisdom. You can manifest any of the gifts, any time the Holy Spirit chooses. Just watch for it in hindsight. tYpou’ll start seeing these things, if you’ve asked Jesus for His baptism.

It usually comes out of a deep worship of the Lord. You start to run out of words and relax, then the Spirit fills your mouth with a pure language.
